What we need right now is not a fence along the border between the U.S. and Mexico, but a series of hand-washing stations, complete with sanitary wipes.
The CDC has advised Americans to be aware of the following indications, which could be evidence of swine flu:
Every day that Rod Blagojevich is in the news provides another reason that Illinoisans are glad to be rid of him. Too bad for the rest of the country, however.
The Obama administration's reversal on opening the door to investigating the previous administration's interrogation of terrorists brings the Democrats' politicization of national security to a new low. Aside from the obvious weakening of our national security, don't be surprised sometime down the road to see that what goes around, comes around.
Judging by the reaction of the gay-rights movement to the opinion of a Christian beauty queen, gays today seem to be anything but.
Don't get too attached to this world; it won't be here forever, no matter how well we take care of it. Even the scientists say so. If you want a sobering view of the transcience of this world and a spur to think about eternity, read The Life and Death of Planet Earth.
Barack Obama's decision to release the memo detailing CIA interrogation methods of terror suspects reveals a number of things: (1) National security is not as high on his agenda as scoring political points, as divulging the memo will hurt our ability to gain useful intel in the future from those who wish to do our country harm; (2) it is clear that we were not torturing anyone; (3) future attacks, in part prevented by such interrogation techniques, will fully be Obama's responsibility.
Those who work out to feel better sometimes end up feeling worse than those who remain glued to their couches. It's not fair, perhaps, but it's life.
I don't know which I'm more outraged by: the Obama administration's request that an insignia about Christ at Georgetown University be covered up before the president speaks there, or the Catholic university's acquiescence. Some might say it's a small thing, but small things mean a lot, especially when our president has just gotten finished telling a Muslim nation that the United States is in no sense a Christian nation. Perhaps he ought to be as bold with us and try telling that to the 76 percent of American adults who identify themselves as Christians.
The Obama administration's decision to warn local law enforcement agencies about possible rightwing extremist groups seems curious, and curiously timed, at best. With protests rising over the Democrats' unsustainable profligacy, the warning seems to be a shot across the bow of the conservative movement, seemingly feeding the conspiracy theories of some on the far right. True, there are undoubtedly some unsavory extremists out there across the fruited plain, but they come from all sides, including the left.
The pirates are promising vengeance against America. Our president ought to say, "Go ahead and make my day," and then back it up if necessary. If the pirates didn't learn a valuable lesson from attempting to take a U.S. ship last week, then Obama may have to explain it to them. And remember, we know where they live.
The daring rescue of our captain from Somali pirates reflects well on the U.S. Navy, and on our commander in chief. May he show the same kind of resolve with America's many bigger, badder enemies.
If you're writing a book, don't save your best material for the next one. Put your best into this one, and trust that you will be able to acquire more for the next, when you will need it. Because if you don't give this one your best, there's no guarantee there will be a next.
With North Korea firing missiles that theoretically could hit United States territory or key allies, why is the president proposing huge cuts in defense? I'm all for cutting out fat, but let's not cut out muscle just so we can (try to) pay for this administration's move toward socialism. Without an adequate defense, the rest is meaningless.
On his apology tour President Obama has been offering a lot of non sequiturs. Turkey, run by a secular government, has been a reliable ally in the Iraq war and Obama says the United States is not at war with Islam. (Whoever said we were?) Then Kim Jong-Il launches a long-range missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons and Obama announces his desire for worldwide nuclear disarmament. Is he even paying attention?
Secretly Barack Obama must be thanking George W. Bush for taking care of Saddam, because it looks as if the new president's plate will be full dealing with Kim Jong-Il and the mullahs who are running Iran. Imagine having to confront all three.
Last week judges in Iowa legalized homosexual marriage. This continues a trend whereby every time citizens get a vote they say no and every time judges have a say they vote yes. Of course judges are supposed to interpret the law and not be swayed by popular sentiment. But it appears that since gay marriage has never been a part of civilized society until the last 10 years that it is the judges and not the people who are getting carried away by sentimentality.
"Rod Blagojevich, you've just been indicted on federal corruption and racketeering charges. What are you going to do?"
Barack Obama's budget plans would double the national debt in five years, triple it in 10. The president's defense: Bush started it. Whatever happened to, "The buck stops here"?
