A Prince of a Soldier

I hate to sound hard-hearted, but I have no interest in where Prince Harry is deployed. I thank him for his service as I would any soldier protecting us from the terrorists. And he shows more courage and grit than most of the other royals put together. But I was not on the edge of my seat wondering where he was. Just let him do his job. I suspect he feels the same way. Leave this soldier alone.

The Gender Card

Obama is younger than Hillary, a more inspiring speaker, advocates most of the same positions, hasn't made as many enemies, doesn't have much of a track record to defend, and was consistent on the war. With Hillary Clinton's campaign on life support, it's time for her to pull the gender card. There really is no other reason for Democrats to vote for her.

Obstinate Oscars

The Academy Awards scored their lowest ratings in two decades the other night. Perhaps one reason is the violent and disturbing nature of several of the films up for honors. It's hard for the whole family to watch such stuff.

When will Hollywood ever learn? Family-friendly films usually do better at the box office, yet the movie industry seems intent on force-feeding us the dark stuff. I'll shed few tears for their ratings fiasco.

Sir Ralph the Green Knight

Just when Republican hopes seemed lowest, a white knight is riding to the rescue. No, he not a Republican. He's Ralph Nader.

It's Just about Politics

John McCain is on the front page of the Times today for allegedly having an "inappropriate" relationship with a lobbyist. Now I'm for marital fidelity as much as anyone, but I seem to remember someone saying, "It's just about sex," and therefore questions are off limits. Of course, that time it was about a Democrat, not a Republican.

Could this possibly be a partisan attack?

Star Wars, Indeed

For all those who derided Reagan's proposed Strategic Defense Initiative (and Bush II's support of further research) as a Star Wars fantasy, I give you tonight's attempted shoot-down of a wayward spy satellite.

Boring and Boringer

The only thing boringer than the NBA's slam-dunk contest is talking about it.

Shooter

If a shooter ever shows up where I am, I hope I'll be trying to stop him from cold-bloodedly picking people off, not crawling under the seats. But I wonder.

Yesterday

Hillary Clinton will lose the battle for the nomination because she is so yesterday among Democrats, while Barack Obama is so today. The narrative of the young African-American promising change has drowned out her narrative of "the world's smartest woman" becoming our nation's first woman president.

Position

A position of influence means little if you don't use it to influence people.

Writing News

There's good news and bad news with the end of the writers' strike. The good news is Hollywood can resume production of its usual television and movie fare. The bad news is Hollywood can resume production of its usual television and movie fare.

Obama: Do and Don't

When it comes to Obama, don't tell me what he'll do. Tell me what he's done.

Super Surprising Showing

Mike Huckabee's surprising showing proves the old adage (actually, I just made it up): The pundits are always wrong.

Hardly Super

As a Christian conservative, this is hardly a Super Tuesday for me. But I'll hold my nose and try to vote for the least bad option. Otherwise, I'll have no right to complain later.

Too Many Debates

Nuff said.
