Here's a teaser from the Chicago Tribune:
State got billions. Where are the jobs?
The federal government poured more than $6 billion into Illinois in stimulus cash, but the number of jobs created is a bit hazy.
Maybe if the Democrats call their increasingly unpopular, 2,000-page health care "reform" bill the biggest Thanksgiving turkey ever, people will change their minds about it.
In the largest such action to date, the feds are recalling 2 million baby cribs, calling them unsafe. I have just one question: Why don't they ever test the things before they get on the market?
As Team Obama grinds forward toward an eventual Afghanistan decision, prominent Democrats are fretting about the cost of the war and saying the administration must specify where the money to continue the fight is to come from.
Many people went against their better judgment and voted for Barack Obama because of "the poor." Congratulations, we now have a lot more poor among us.
What if the Democrats passed health care "reform" and the people just refused to go along? If our elected representatives refuse to listen to us, why should we listen to them?
Why do radio announcers say "Welcome back" after a commercial break? It wasn't the listener who left.
I'm still trying to figure out what the advantage is to moving the Gitmo terrorists to a federal prison in Illinois. If conditions are going to be just as before, there's no need to move them, and the enemy will still use their treatment as a recruiting tool (according to the administration). If their treatment is to be different, and the terrorists are allowed to mix with and recruit other federal prisoners, it's even worse. Besides all this, to a certain degree, moving them here makes law-abiding citizens at least theoretically less safe.
Now the "experts" are saying women don't need mammograms until age 50, rather than 40, which has been the standard. I smell a health care "reform" rat.
A couple of questions for our president, based on his Asia tour so far:
Maybe the punishment for the Gitmo detainees should be having to watch a Bears game. Or would that be a violation of the Geneva Conventions?
The Obama administration is apparently going to provide the Guantanamo terrorists crminal trials in civilian courts in New York. Is the president really that blind? Doesn't he know that this whole approach-treating terrorism as a crime rather than as an act of war-was buried in the rubble of the World Trade Center?
Let's see: The Fort Hood shooter criticized U.S. military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan as an attack on Islam, shouted "God is great!" in Arabic while committing the massacre, attended the same mosque as some of the 9/11 terrorists, and tried dozens of times to contact terrorist elements overseas.
Presiident Obama labeled as liars anyone who said health care "reform" would cover abortion. Yet in the House it took a special amendment to take abortion out, an amendmment pro-choice liberals say has to go if they are to support the legislation.
Innoculating the health care "reform" bill against abortion is like putting lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig, and it will gobble up money and freedom like a hog in slop. Such a measure is better than keeping abortion in, but it's still a bad bill and should be voted down in the Senate.
With the official jobless rate above 10 percent for the first time in a generation (and functional unemployment at 17.5 percent), the Democrats' response is to continue to push their health care "reform." I wonder if "non-sequitur disease" will be covered under Obamacare?
The terror attack on Fort Hood by a Muslim extremist was characterized as a "tragedy" by our president, who urged us not to jump to conclusions. While we wait for Mr. Obama to figure this out, I have one question: Just how aggressive will this administration be in interrogating the perp, if the guy lives? Waterboarding, anyone? Okay, three questions: Just how much of a role did political correctness have in putting this man in position to commit this act of terror?
One administration "blows the cover" of a CIA agent and the media go nuts. Another does the same (actually, in a much more sensitive case), and the oldline media are silent. Care to guess which case involved the Bush administration, and which involves the Obama administration? "State controlled media" indeed! You called it, Rush.
Barack Obama says he has to take his time with the Afghanistan decision, which indeed is too important to rush. I'm sure he's getting a lot of time to think in between New Jersey campaign stops.
So, let me see if I have this right. Our president will go to Copenhagen for an Olympics bid, but he won't go to Germany for the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall? That says something, doesn't it?
As the Democrats move ahead on a budget-busting health care "reform" plan no one wants but them, they apparently have left themselves the option to keep their own plum plan while taking away the choices of others. Kind of makes you sick, doesn't it? Why do they do it? Two reasons: Because they want control, and because they can.
