Comeuppance

The big boys from Chicago got their comeuppance from an even more corrupt IOC yesterday. Mayor Richard "Cost Overrun" Daley is used to calling the shots and getting what he wants. He tore up an airfield in the dead of night rather than take his case to court; his Millennium Park was budgeted at $150 million and came in at $475 million; and the corruption of his office (remember the "hired truck scandal"?) is legendary. Yet Copenhagen ain't the Windy City, and what he got instead was egg all over his face.

Then we have Barack and Michelle. I'm using first names here because they tried to make the city's Olympics bid all about them. Michelle in a speech to the IOC said it was a "sacrifice" for her to be there, and Barack's money line was some blather about wanting to step out the door of his posh Chicago home to be able to welcome the Olympics. Self-centered is an understatement when describing this pair.

Well, at least we can't blame Bush or the "vast, rightwing conspiracy" for this fiasco. Wasn't the world supposed to love us now that we have elected the Great Cleanser?
